So...what to write here. I'm both excited and nervous to do this thing. I figure by creating this site and putting my story ideas out there, it makes it a bit more tangible. Almost forces me to continue working on them, you know. Gonna be honest, I haven't written anything new in any sense of the word in over a year. If it weren't for Google dropping its hosting service and switching me over to Squarespace, I probably would have continued not writing anything. Oh, and also I'm working on my mental health. Who knew depression would affect so many parts of your life, including the stuff you like to do (see: any mental health professional...)?
Now one of the biggest questions as I reignite my passion and continue down this path of writing: where do I (re)start? Do I pick up on some of my already started stories, re-read what I wrote, and continue? Do I pick up somewhere else in those stories? Do I start a new story or idea?
If this were gaming, I would probably just start a new game. Do I take my inspiration from there? Gaming and writing share some similarities. Both allow you to discover a story. But there is a glaring difference: in gaming, I'm following someone else's story, not creating my own. Not to mention, I don't even think I have a new story to write...
So which story do I pick up with? Am I feeling fantasy? Fantasy with world building, or based in the world we know? Apocalyptic? If so, zombies or aliens? Sci-Fi? Based in modern times, or future, or even based on us at all?
Gonna be honest...I don't have an answer. I think the best option is to just start reading what I have, then seeing if I want to keep going, or set it down and try one of my other stories.
With that, I'll get to experience what many of us avid readers enjoy: rediscovering a story we like. Because, let's be honest: if I didn't like the story, why would I write it? I won't get to experience what all of us truly enjoy: the first read and discovery of a good story. But the hope is that I get to allow many others that privilege with the stories I have here. And with that, I'm off to re-discover and hopefully reignite my passion for writing. I hope this is the first step on a long journey, and I hope millions of people will read this one day and look back at this fondly. But if it's only a handful, I hope you like what you read.
